Leland Frank Smith, 85, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Saturday, October 20, 2007. Mr. Smith was born March 9, 1922, in Eckford Township, Michigan, the son of Albert and Florence (Lord) Smith.

He worked as a shipping clerk at Aluminum Extrusions for many years until his retirement in 1987. He was also a local farmer, a Jacques seed corn salesman; and owned and operated Smith Cage Layers Poultry Farm for over 20 years. He was a former Board member for the Ainger Bible Church and was currently a member of the First Baptist Church of Charlotte. He was a regular member of a Thursday morning Prayer Breakfast group.

He is survived by his wife, Lorena; daughter, Margaret (Loren) Dingman of Cedarville; sons, Richard (Christine) Smith of Nashville and Randy (Claudine) Smith of Battle Creek; stepdaughters, Debra (Jan) Benedict of Nokomis, FL and Sharon (Steven) Elzinga of Hastings; 9 grandchildren, 9 stepgrandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, 7 step-great-grandchildren; and brother, Gaylord Smith, of Enid, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Wilene Ruth (Haun) Smith; daughter, Susan Ruth Smith; sister, Marguerite Boakes; and brother, George Smith. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2007, at the First Baptist Church, Charlotte, Michigan, with the Rev. Loren Dingman officiating. Interment will be in the Bosworth Cemetery in Walton Township, Michigan. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Pray Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Gull Lake Ministries, Hickory Corners, Michigan.
