Obituary
William "Bill" Dean Posthumus, was born on January 29, 1957 in Kalamazoo, Michigan and passed away in his home with family near on March 4, 2025, at the age of 68. Bill was a lifelong resident of Portage, Michigan and was a graduate of Portage Central High School. He dedicated his life to working in excavating and road construction with both Balkema Excavating Inc. and Hoffman Bros. Inc. He was very well known and respected in the local construction community. After retiring from Hoffman Bros. Inc, he enjoyed purchasing lawn equipment and doing small engine repairs in his home garage.
Bill's life was enriched by a deep love for his family. He met his beloved wife, Delanne, at RJ's Sports Bar, and they married in Las Vegas on February 23, 1993. Together they shared 32 wonderful years. Bill was a devoted husband and amazing father figure to his step children, Kasey and Misty, whom he helped raise from a young age. Bill's home was always warm and welcoming, embodying his family-centered values.
Bill was a student of history and current affairs. He was exceptionally well read about politics and he could provide and relate to both sides of an argument. He had his opinions but was open to hearing others too. Bill was comfortable in his own skin and knew where he stood in the world. He was extremely likeable and made friends easily.
Bill was a long time, loyal fan of the Detroit Lions. He enjoyed drinking coffee and eating as many sweets as possible. Bill was also always fond of taking a good nap. He had a love for dogs, especially golden retrievers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Delanne Posthumus; his step children, Danene (Steven) Phypers, Daniel Tiller, Kasey (Zachary) Ritsema, and Misty Reid (Ben Marshall); his grandchildren, Kellianne Reid, Noah Ritsema, and Charlie Ritsema, to whom he was known as "Papa"; his brothers Dale (Kathy) Posthumus and Doug (Brenda) Posthumus; and his golden retriever Ripp. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bettijean Posthumus.
Bill Posthumus will be remembered for his dedication to his family and the warmth he brought to everyone who knew him. He was kind, compassionate, and caring. He was a great man and a good friend. He will be dearly missed.
