William Mitchell Kimerly, 67 known as "Back Pack Bill", of Traverse City born, August 6, 1946, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at his home.
He was well known and well loved by the homeless community.
He was raised in Gross Pointe, Michigan and Leland, Michigan. He traveled extensively.
In 1996, he became a permanent Traverse City resident.
Bill loved the beauty of the outdoors and was in the planning stages of building his retirement home in Leelanau County with his loving daughter.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte Lynn Mitchell Kimerly Gittner and his father, Harvey Kimerly who lived in Grosse Pointe.
Bill is survived by two daughters, and two grandchildren.
Cremation will take place. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Grace Episcopal Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to the House of Doggs Homeless Fund. Donations may be made at the House of Doggs or Northwestern Bank, both on Union Street.
The family chose Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City to handle the services.
