William "Bill" Mills

William "Bill" A. Mills, age 89 of Schoolcraft, passed away at home on September 28, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. He was born on January 11, 1936, in Kalamazoo, the third son of the late Leland and Lena (Peekstok) Mills. Bill was a 1954 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and a 1958 graduate of Western Michigan University with his BA in Business. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Bill was a member of the Greenwood Reformed Church and served as both an Elder and Deacon and served on the consistory board. He was a charter member of the Schoolcraft Lions Club and a longtime member of the YMCA. Bill served 6 years in the Michigan Air National Guard. He was a former Cub Master of Pack 250 and a baseball coach with West Portage Little League. Bill started his career with Gibson Guitar, then Brunswick and Checker Motors. He was the past president of the SW Michigan Association of purchasing managers. Later, he went into sales as a manager rep. for several companies including Tyler Supply and Tipco Punch. Bill enjoyed the outdoors and working in his yard. He liked taking his beloved dogs for walks in the wooded trails, hunting, fishing, golfing, boating, camping, traveling, running, snowmobiling and skiing. He was a ski advisor on the Schoolcraft Ski Club for 32 years. On August 16, 1958, he married Bonnie Noorman and they were blessed with three children. Later in life, his pride and joy were his 4 grandchildren. He loved to attend their band concerts, soccer, volleyball, softball, hockey, baseball and football games. Bill liked to attend WMU and Schoolcraft football games and watching the Detroit Lions and Tigers games on TV. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Bonnie Mills; his children: Susan (Scott) Markus and Dave (Jackie) Mills; his grandchildren: Megan Markus, Mindy (Ben) Barron, Landis Mills and Ryar Mills; his stepsiblings: Linton Warner, Darwin Warner and Linda Smith; his brothers-in-law: Ken (Bonnie) Noorman and James Noorman and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Hazel Mills, his son Brian Mills, his best friend/dog Jasper, his brothers Richard and James Mills and his nephew Wayne Mills. Friends may gather with his family on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009, where his funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM.
