Sheppard, Jr. , Vernon 8/20/1955 - 12/29/2020 Kalamazoo Vernon "Vern" Sheppard, Jr. of Kalamazoo, MI Vern, age 65, died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday morning, December 29, 2020. Vern, the son of Vernon and Edna (Kenter) Sheppard, Sr., was born in Covington, KY on August 20, 1955. He graduated from Gibraltar Carlson (MI) High School in 1973 and Western Michigan University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. While at WMU, he was a proud member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He lived in the Kalamazoo area for the past 40 years. Vern was employed as the General Manager of Post Community Credit Union in Battle Creek and retired in June of 2011 after 27 years. Vern was an accomplished cribbage, crossword, and scrabble player, an avid consumer of the news, and was known to be a kind and considerate man. Vern was united in marriage to, Jean Louise Wold in Muskegon, MI on August 22, 1981. Surviving is his wife of 39 years, Jean; his daughter, Veronica Jean Sheppard of Kalamazoo; his son, John "Jack" Vernon Sheppard of Utica, MI; two sisters, Barbara (Roger Derlin) Sheppard of Delran, NJ and Patricia (Richard) Sloss of Albrightsville, PA; his brother, Kenneth Sheppard of Delran, NJ; in-laws John and Pat O'Toole and Lee Rodgers, and many nieces and nephews. Vern was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Thomas "Tommy" in 1976 and nephew, Ryan Sloss in 2007. As per Vern's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Vern's honor may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
