Vera Roeschen

August 25, 1933-March 6, 2016

Vera Roeschen (Georgieff) was a poised, private, and classy woman that was ahead of her time. She had an artistic flair with a skill for witty conversation. She was a black and white photo with red lipstick. We will remember her passion for learning, her love of art and literature, and most of all her witty sense of humor.

She was born in a small town in Yugoslavia, daughter of the late Korun and Vasa (Nee: Gajdovska) Georgieff. When she was two, her family emigrated from the farmlands of Macedonia to Racine, Wisconsin. Vera graduated from UW-Madison in 1955 with a degree in Sociology and was employed as a Social Worker by Dane County Welfare Department for several years.

On June 23, 1955 at Holy Name Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Robert C. Roeschen. Vera served as President of the Women’s Pharmacy Auxiliary, docent at Wustum Museum, volunteered with the Racine Literacy Council, and was politically minded. An excellent cook, Vera enjoyed cooking shows and had a vast collection of cookbooks. Above all she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished time with her family.

She was fun to tell stories to because she listened intently and she had an engaging laugh. We will dearly miss our phone calls with both her and our dad on the phone line, talking at the same time. Our mom had a great sense of humor. People loved to sit next to her at events as she always had something witty to say. She made people feel more funny and clever than they actually were (hence her loved ones’ heightened self-esteem).

She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of sixty years, Robert; her children, Julie Roeschen (Robert Church), Thomas Roeschen (Cheryl Dejewski), Susan Jakobs (William McNeal), Sarah (Michael) McMahon; her five grandchildren, Emma Church, Hannah Jakobs, Alexander Roeschen, Michael and Jack McMahon; sister, Mildred Johnson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Patricia Cesario and her two brothers-in-law, George Johnson and Eugene Cesario.

A private ceremony was held. Donations to remember Vera can be sent to Wustum Museum in Racine, WI or The Oakton Place at Arlington Healthcare in Naples, FL.
