Trudy (DeRooy) Vermaire, age 93,of Grand Rapids, MI went to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday evening, Nov. 5, 2016, surrounded by her family, after a full and joyful life. Trudy was born in 1923, near Edmonton, Canada, after her parents immigrated from the Netherlands with her three older siblings. When Trudy was three the family moved to Everett, WA, where she attended Christian grade school, then public high school. She worked as a secretary, and later moved to Grand Rapids to attend Calvin College. After her marriage to Paul Vermaire, she loved working with him in ministry. During their years at Zutphen CRC (Hudsonville) and at Westview CRC (Grand Rapids) she led Bible lessons and other activities, including teaching her Christian Life Course for teenage girls. She loved having people in for a visit, a meal, or a week. She made a point of hosting at their home every member of the church, within the first three years, for a Sunday night supper. During the 17 years her husband served as Home Missions Regional Director (Mid-East U.S.), she did his secretarial work and often traveled with him. After his death, and even after losing both legs due to complications from heart disease, she kept her unflagging, cheerful spirit, and blessed her family for many years as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Dearly loved and gone to heaven before her were parents, Arie and Clazina DeRooy from Everett, WA, husband, Paul Vermaire from Grand Rapids, and son-in-law Peter Bosscher from Madison, WI. Dear ones left behind are children and grandchildren Marcia Lynn Bosscher of Madison, WI, with Nate (Alicia), Anne (Andrew), Georgia (Patrick), and Toney; Mark (Lori) Vermaire of Den Haag, the Netherlands, with Joshua (Heidi), Jonathan, and Lucas; and Robert "Bob" (Marcia Ruth) Vermaire of La Gonave, Haiti, with Hope, Paul, Anna, and Matthew. Dear siblings and in-laws gone before are William (Evelyn) DeRooy, Tina (Ken) Troost, Tony (Myrt) DeRooy, Alice (Bert) DeGroot, Ken Spillman, Grace (George) VerHoeven, Henry DeRooy, Nelle (Gene) Cottrill, and Win Reynolds. Sibling and in-laws left on earth are Agnes (Henry) DeVisser of Kalamazoo, Sylvia DeRooy, and Herb (Martha) Reynolds of Washington State. Dear to Trudy also are dozens of loving nieces and nephews, and a host of friends living from the West Coast to Grand Rapids and beyond. A Service of Remembrance and Celebration will be held Friday, Nov. 11, at 11:00 AM, at Raybrook Manor Chapel, 2121 Raybrook St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI. The family welcomes friends to visit with them Thursday, Nov. 10, 6-8 pm at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE, or for an hour before the service at Raybrook from 10:00-11:00 AM. There will be an opportunity to share remembrances of Trudy at the luncheon following the service. Written remembrances may be sent to Marcia Bosscher at 105 Vaughn Ct., Madison, WI 53705 or to marciabosscher@gmail.com.
