Trena Vander Roest

Vander Roest, Trena Portage, MI Went into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, January 5, 2017. She was born on September 14, 1925, the daughter of the late Arie and Alice (Hutt) Kiel and was one of fourteen children. Trena was a member of Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed bowling, going to cottages, Bingo and grow group. She loved working with her sisters at John Kiel Greenhouses and Carl Hoeksema Greenhouses. She was married to John Vander Roest, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death, were two infant sons, John and Daniel and a son, James; siblings, Jesse, Berdine, John, Henry, Irene, Anna, Alfred and Donald. She leaves behind children, Carol (Glenn) Ennis, Marcia (Rick) Van Dyke and Tom (Char) Vander Roest and daughter-in-law, Brenda (James) Vander Roest; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Lisa (Jim), Josiah and Lydia Goble, Dawn (Jeff), Austin (Lauren) and Alyssa Jackson, Kim (Michael) and Sadie Crampton, Matthew (Heather), Branden, Justin and Megan Vander Roest, Nathan (Michelle), Rachael, AJ, and Kaitlyn Vander Roest, Kevin (Julia), Tristan and Cooper Vander Roest, Lori (Joel), Maddy, Marah and Jared Slager, Eric (Beth), Heidi, Lincoln and Cooper Van Dyke, Shelley (Kirk), Drake, Jonah and Grant DeLeeuw, Shannon (Chuck), Chase and Dylan Bailey and Chad (Jenny), Carly, Ellie and Trena Vander Roest; siblings, Arthur (Carol), Betty, Ruth, Robert (Carroll), and Dorothy (Larry). The family would like to give a special thank you to Lisa, Erica, Jill and Beth, who went the extra mile for Trena. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 12th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009. The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 13th at Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church, 9316 Oakland Drive, Portage, MI 49024, with Pastors Phillip Kok and Bill Fernhout officiating. Private interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church or Heartland Hospice.
