Thomas Rynd

Rynd, Thomas A. Portage, Michigan Thomas A. Rynd, age 86 of Portage, died on November 15, 2021. He was born on January 8, 1935, in Kalamazoo, the son of John and Jeannette (Bonte) Rynd. Tom was a graduate of Portage Central High School. On March 2, 1957, Tom married Mary Schoenbaechler and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage. He began working in construction at an early age with his father and remained in the industry his entire career. Tom was a lifelong learner who loved to design, create, and build. He welcomed challenges, loved solving problems, took a lot of satisfaction from a job well done and sharing his love of building with others. Tom was generous with his time and talent whenever he was asked for his expertise. He enjoyed auto racing, sailing and flying as long as he had the controls. Tom cherished his family and friends. He loved nature and that is where he felt closest to God. Along with his wife Mary Rynd, his surviving family includes his daughter, Michelle (Brad) Kranendonk; his 4 grandkids and 1 great-granddaughter; his sisters: Marise (Dale) Cooper and Linda (Gordon) Pennell; his brother, Daryl (Robin) Rynd; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Rynd. Friends may visit with his family on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, from 5:00-8:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, with a time of sharing from 6:00-7:00 PM. Tom often said if he had unlimited funds, he would always have fresh flowers in the house and new socks every day.
