Garnett, Thomas E 7/14/1939 - 9/7/2022 Cable, WI Wednesday, September 7, 2022, Tom Garnett, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather had a peaceful death at his home under Hospice care. He was eighty-three. Born to Clifford E. and Dorothea (Snider) Garnett in Owosso, Michigan. He lived in Owosso until he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1957. He served during peace time and spent three years as a bandsman (baritone horn) at Twenty-Nine Palms, CA, 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan and Treasure Island (San Francisco) Fleet Marine Force. Discharged he returned to Owosso and married Martha (Connor) and had two sons, Doug and Russwll. He worked as a printer at Garnett Printing Company with his Uncle Sherman and Aunt Jackie. He then became involved with Chambers of Commerce in Michigan and Wisconsin and was a graduate from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management at Michigan State University. In the fall of 1979 he became the owner of Type of Southwest Michigan (FutureGraphics, Ltd.) with his second wife, Judy (Janoska) whom he married in 1977. Future Graphics (TSM) was a graphic design and typesetting business in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In January 2001, Tom joined Battle Creek Health System and served as a Manager, Graphic Communications & Marketing Specialist. Tom was an avid outdoors-man and enjoyed backpacking with trips to Isle Royale National Park, the Appalachian Trail and the North Country Trail. He served in leadership roles as President of the Chief Noonday Chapter of the North Country Trail Association and Founder and President of the Calhoun County Trailway Alliance (CCTA). The CCTA provided leadership for the development, funding, construction, maintenance and marketing of the Calhoun County Historic Iron Bridge Trail, a forty mile linking trail system connecting the cities of Battle Creek, Marshall, Albion and Homer in Calhoun County. Funding in excess of $22 million dollars was developed by the CCTA for the project. After the move to northern Wisconsin in 2014, Tom also served on the Board of Crossroads Outreach Center, Ashland, WI and most recently was a founding member and served on the Board of the Chequamegon Pregnancy Center in Ashland, WI. Tom is survived by his wife Judy; son Doug and his wife Holli of Beverly Hills, FL; son Russ of Chisago City, MN. He also has five granddaughters; Ariel Burton of Curtis, MI; Galilee, Tula, Sabre and Atlantis Garnett of Beverly Hills, FL; three grandsons; Dietrich Leach of Kalamazoo, MI, Devin and Blane Garnett of Chisago City, MN. Tom also has two great-granddaughters Aaliyah and Annika Burton of Curtis, MI. Tom's Celebration of Life will be one year from now on Saturday, September 9, 2023. The service will be at The Oaks of Drummond, 14695 County Hwy N, Drummond, WI 54832. Services begin at 10:00 A.M., followed by a luncheon.
