Terry McGuire

Terry Lee McGuire, age 71, of Portage, MI passed away Sunday December 10, 2017 at his residence. Terry was born August 11, 1946 in Kalamazoo, the son of Ralph and Betty (Bingman) McGuire. He was a longtime area resident and received his Bachelor's Degree from Western Michigan University. Terry served active duty in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1965-68, receiving many awards including the Purple Heart. He continued to serve our country in the Army Reserves and National Guard for many years as a commissioned officer, and was a member of the Portage VFW Post #5855. Prior to his retirement, Terry was employed with General Motors for over 27 years. On June 10, 1967, he was united in marriage to Phyllis (Smith) McGuire, who preceded him in death on November 10, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his daughter Shannon McGuire; his sisters Maureen McGuire and Pamela McGuire; and many other special family and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00PM on Wednesday, December 13th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Avenue. A service to celebrate Terry's life will be held at 12:00PM on Thursday, December 14th at the Langeland Portage Chapel with Pastor Clayton Smith officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials in Terry's memory may be directed to the Veterans of Portage Memorial Fund or the Portage VFW Post #5855.
