Fenner, Stirling A. 6/27/1940 - 7/25/2016 Grand Rapids Stirling A. Fenner of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully at home on July 25th after a short illness. He was born in Mason County on June 27th 1940, to Ida (Sterling) and Stirling M. Fenner and was a 1958 graduate of Freesoil High School. He later graduated from Western Michigan University, and had a long career as a middle school science teacher and track coach with the Gull Lake Community Schools in Richland. Stirling was a devoted husband to his wife of 49 years, JoAnn, with whom he had three daughters, Erin Fenner (Duncan Drummond) of Skokie, IL, Heidi (Jason) Bush of Gulf Breeze, FL, and Meegin (Dave) Rozeboom of Grand Rapids. Besides his wife and daughters, he is survived by seven grandchildren, his siblings Jerry Fenner of Fountain, Sandy Lange of Ludington, Nancy McDiarmid of Fountain, Phil Fenner of Scottville, Dan Fenner of Grand Rapids, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service at 11am on Saturday August 6 at North Park Presbyterian Church, Grand Rapids. Memorial donations may be made to the Kalamazoo Area Mathematics and Science Center (KAMSC) Annual Fund. In Mr. Fenner's classroom, students were encouraged to be curious and thoughtful scientists. He was an entertaining and motivational teacher who will be remembered and missed by many.
