Norby, Stewart A. 3/7/1931 - 6/28/2020 Allegan Stewart A. Norby, 89 of Allegan, Michigan, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2020 at Briarwood Assisted Living in Allegan. Born in Beloit, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late Arnie and Alice (Tyler) Norby. Stewart graduated from Beloit High School in 1949 and later met Joyce Laberdie, whom he married on Christmas Eve 1954. Together they raised two sons, Steve and Michael. Stewart proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Serving as a supervisor for 35 years in the Electrical Distribution Department of Consumers Power, Stewart retired in 1990. He and his wife, Joyce, were long-time members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Allegan. He was active in many organizations both in Allegan and Kalamazoo along with many sports programs and coached in the Westwood L.L. for a number of years. He also participated in the N-SSA (Skirmish Association) where different re-enactments of the Civil War took place and further education of the war was learned. Spending time fishing and hunting with his son, Mike, and golfing with his son, Steve and grandson, Brandon brought a lot of enjoyment for Stewart. Surviving are his sons, Steven (Lisa) Norby and Michael Norby; grandson, Brandon (Lindsay) Norby; great-granddaughter, Celina Joyce Norby; Stewart is also survived by MaryAnn Woodard his special friend and companion for 18 years; along with other wonderful friends and neighbors. Stewart is preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Joyce Norby, parents Arnie and Alice Norby, and three brothers, and one sister. Friends may meet with the family at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Stewart's name to Immanuel Lutheran Church (631 Grand St. Allegan, MI 49010) and Hospice of Holland (270 Hoover Blvd. Holland, MI 49423).Cremation has taken place according to his wishes and inurnment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery for immediate family only.
