Morley, Steven 4/28/1946 - 9/19/2021 Kalamazoo Steven James Morley of Kalamazoo, Michigan passed of natural causes Sunday, September 19, 2021 at his home. He was born April 28, 1946 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Emma Jean and Max Arthur Morley of Galien, Michigan. Steve was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal E-4 after serving at Cherry Point, NC and Vietnam from 1966 to 1969. He was a crew member with the 152nd Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron. After his time in the Marines, Steve earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo in 1971. He then completed academic course work for a Masters of Social Work from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1976. Steve worked in this field at a variety of locations including Escanaba, MI., Boulder and Ouray, CO., and KVISD in Kalamazoo. As written by his children: Our father loved to fish in all waters but especially those throughout Michigan. He taught himself to play six and twelve string guitars, the harmonica, banjo and ukulele. Above all, his greatest loves were his granddaughters Josephine and Charlotte Morley. They brought him complete happiness. Their bonds allowed him countless moments of pure joy. A quote from an upstanding Michigander about the integrity of our father, "I also feel that the world needs more people like Mr. Morley. He is sensitive to the strengths of other people and is not discouraged by their weaknesses. He is personally modest but strong. He sees through the surface to the core of a problem and is not afraid of what he sees – only motivated to engage the source of the problem. Importantly, I am as sure as one can be in this world that Mr. Morley will unselfishly dedicate himself…" (April 1, 1975 Mary S. Coleman, Justice). These words are as true in 2021 as they were in 1975. A huge part of who we are is because of our beloved father. His jewel of wisdom: Each of us is responsible for our own happiness. These words only describe an iota on the surface of the man we love so dearly. The expansiveness of his emotional and intellectual strength are boundless. Every memory we have is a gift. We love you Dad; you will always be remembered. Be at peace. Our father is survived by Emma Morley, mother; Beth Lawrence and family, sister; Mike Morley and family, brother; Lisa Morley, daughter; Abram Morley, son; Josephine Morley, granddaughter; Charlotte Morley, granddaughter. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 from 12:00-3:00pm at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo, Observation Lounge at the Flight Discovery Center. 6151 Portage Road, Portage, MI 49002. Inurnment at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, MI 49015 at a later date. Care entrusted to Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 622 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007. To view Steve's personalized web page, please visit https://www.langelands.com
