Sister Emeline Bash, O.P., 100, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine, WI on Sunday October 2, 2016.

Mary Helen was born August 9, 1916 to John and Mary (nee: Gough) Bash in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. On August 3, 1932 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1933 she was given the religious name Sister Emeline. She professed her first vows in 1935 and her final vows in 1941.

Sister Emeline spent many years in service to others in the field of education and as a pastoral assistant. She began her ministry in 1934 at St. Joseph, Racine, WI. Other places in Wisconsin where she served as a teacher and/or principal were St. Benedict the Moor, Milwaukee; Holy Cross, Kaukauna; and Holy Name, Racine. From 1960-1961 she was the Community Assistant Supervisor of Schools and the following year the Community Supervisor of Schools and Principals. She also served many years in Michigan as a principal, supervisor of schools, Superintendent of Schools in Kalamazoo, Director of Student Development at Madonna College in Livonia and Pastoral Assistant at St. Clements, Center Line. She became a resident at Siena Center in 2005. In June 2016 she moved to Lakeshore Manor in Racine.

Sister Emeline is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother Thomas Bash and sisters Patricia Coussens, Theresa Distelroth, Sister Ruth Bash, O.P., Esther Dunn and Imelda Watson.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Friday October 7, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Internment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32 at a later date. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.

staff who cared for Sister Emeline at Lakeshore Manor.
