Niecko, Shirley Marblehead, MA Shirley Ann (Cook) Niecko, age 82, of Marblehead, Massachusetts, died peacefully at the Lafayette Nursing and Rehabilitation Home on Thursday, August 19, 2021, the 38th anniversary of her late son Robbie's Funeral. She was the wife of the late William R. Niecko. Born and raised in Topeka, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Edward Cook and Arlene Mildred Shaeffer Newman and the stepdaughter of the late Maggie Cook. She attended Topeka Schools and was a graduate of Topeka High School, class of 1957. She had lived in Kalamazoo, MI, for nearly 60 years before moving to the Boston area in 2019. Many years ago, she worked as a comptometer operator for the Santa Fe Railroad, the premier employer in Topeka, Kansas. She was a "Hockey Mom," not only because two of her children played hockey but because she skated herself and was a season ticket holder for many years for the Kalamazoo Wings Hockey Team. She was also an "Equestrian Mom" attending numerous 4-H Horse shows with her youngest daughter. She also enjoyed watching tennis and, most especially, basketball and her favorite team, the Kansas Jayhawks. She was a self-taught organ and guitar player who loved gospel music. Shirley was also an animal lover, especially birds, cats, and dogs. She also loved sunflowers, the state flower of her home state of Kansas. She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Robin (Niecko) LeBlanc and her husband Norman of Nahant, Massachusetts, and their children Normand LeBlanc of Los Angeles, CA, and Nicolas LeBlanc of Nahant, MA, and Timothy Niecko and his wife Xuefei Wang of Tierra Verde, FL, and Tim's daughter Sara Robinson of Grand Rapids, MI, and Jamie (Niecko) Fisher and her husband Rob Fisher and their son Noah Fisher of Otsego, MI, and a stepsister Mari Newman Farrell of Mt. Pleasant, TX. She was also the mother of the late Robbie Niecko, the sister of the late Bob Cook, and the stepsister of the late Dave Newman, late Eddie Cook, and the late Suzanne Cook. She is survived by sister-in-laws: Mary Ann (Niecko) Strohmenger of Jacksonville, FL, and Winnie (Niecko) Adams of Goshen, IN, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley was extremely appreciative of Marty and Jan Niecko of Portage, MI, for their help after her husband passed away in 2009. Shirley leaves behind her friend of over 50 years, Gayle Emery, of Kalamazoo, MI. At her request, Services were private and handled by the Solimine Funeral Homes, Lynn, MA.
