Shirley Lyke-Morgan

Shirley Ruth (Olvitt) Lyke-Morgan, age 80, of Portage, MI passed away September 8, 2016. She is now with her Lord. She was born December 22, 1935 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Lucy Evelyn (Dailey) and William Henry Olvitt Jr. She is survived by her son, Timothy T. Lyke and his wife Jeni and her grandchildren, Celeste Lyke and Kyle Lyke. Also, Sue and Don Deleuw and Marlene Jabara, 3 nieces, 2 nephews and their children. She is preceded in death by her husband George Edward Lyke Jr in 2002 who passed away on their 50th anniversary. She is also preceded by her second husband of 6 years, Arthur Morgan in 2016 and her parents along with her grandparents, Wilhemina (Bestervelt) and William H. Olvitt, who raised her. She felt her call in life was to help others. For many years, she was an active volunteer with Borgess Visiting Nurse and Hospice. She was also active in her church, was a lay speaker and sang in the church choir. At her wish cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service at Almena United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with service to follow at 11:00 a.m. The family will gather privately at the cemetery after the service. The family asks that memorials go to Almena United Methodist Church, Reverence Home Health and Hospice or Rose Arbor Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. Avink Funeral Home Schoolcraft.
