Shirley Ann Lucas, age 67, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away Friday morning, August 21, 2015 at her home. Shirley was born October 10, 1947 in Pittsburg, PA the daughter of Robert and Helen (Woelfer) King. Shirley was raised in Allegan, MI and obtained her higher education at Northwood University, Western Michigan University and Colorado Women's College. She settled in Kalamazoo, MI where she enjoyed being a mother and spending time with her family and friends. Shirley enjoyed playing tennis and bridge. She loved animals and was never without a pet dog. Shirley belonged to the Kalamazoo Academy of Medicine Alliance and Junior League. She enjoyed doing volunteer work with these and other community organizations. On August 29, 1970 she was united in marriage to her loving husband, Dr. Mark Lucas who survives. Also surviving are her children, Rebecca and Dr. Suresh Potluri of Kalamazoo, Dr. Todd Lucas and Dr. Kelly Ryan of Plymouth, MI, Dr. Steven Lucas and Sara Axe of Grosse Pointe, MI; 4 grandchildren, Arianna and Kamran Potluri, Samantha and Daniella Lucas; brother and sister, Richard King and Liz Betz; sisters-in-law, Susanne Lucas and Christine King; mother-in-law, Doris Lucas; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert King; and brothers-in-law, Daniel Betz and Matthew Lucas. Friends may meet the family Tuesday August 25 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, August 26 at the Westside Chapel with Rev. Dr. Douglas Vernon officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the funeral service and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery at 2:00pm. Memorials may be directed to the West Michigan Cancer Center or the Karmanos Cancer Center.
