Shirley Johnson

Johnson, Shirley 5/14/1939 - 2/19/2023 Grand Ledge formerly of Kalamazoo Shirley L. Johnson of Grand Ledge, formerly of Kalamazoo, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 19, 2023 with her loving family by her side. Shirley was born May 14, 1939 in Grand Ledge to the late William and Laura (Durham) Landon. Shirley graduated from Grand Ledge High School in the Class of 1957. She then attended nursing school through Western Michigan University and Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, where she graduated in 1960. She was an RN for 5 years, until she became a stay-at-home mom raising her two children. Shirley had a heart for young people and was called into children's ministry for most of her adult life. She was a member of the Nazarene church and during that time, she shared the love of Jesus with children through her teaching in children's church, vacation bible school, Bible quizzing and Christmas musicals. At home, Shirley enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and keeping up on current events. She is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Wayne; daughter, Laura Johnson; son, Steffen Johnson; brother, Gary Landon and sister-in-law, Janis Landon. Shirley was preceded in death by brother, Douglas Landon and her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Norm Rust. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023, 11:00 AM at the Grand Ledge Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
