Ballock, Shirley Scotts, Michigan Shirley J. Ballock, age 90 of Scotts, died under hospice care on July 21, 2021. She was born on December 7, 1930, in Jenwood, Missouri, the daughter of August and Leona (Wirt) Brasch. After graduating from high school, Shirley served in the U.S. Army. During her station in San Antonio, Texas, she met George Ballock, a fellow soldier. Soon after their honorable discharge the couple was married on January 20, 1955. They celebrated 66 years of marriage this year. Shirley was devoted to her family. She was a proud sports mom and grandma, never missing a chance to show her support during a game. She enjoyed bowling on leagues at Continental Lanes in Kalamazoo. Her crafts were seen at several local crafts fairs that she worked throughout the year to make. Shirley loved to do puzzles and read, especially Harlequin Romance novels. She truly enjoyed traveling the country with her mom, Leona Brasch, and sister Lois. In 2000, the mom and sisters took a road trip to visit Alaska. Her surviving family includes her husband, George; her children: Phyllis (Allen) Curtiss and Donald (LaDonna) Ballock; her daughter-in-law Jan Ballock; her 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; her sister Lois Wiley and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son David Ballock, her brother Elton Brasch, and her sisters, Ann Schlot and Barbara Grant. Friends may visit with her family on Monday, July 26, 2021, from 10 AM-11 AM, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 411 East Centre Avenue, Portage, MI 49002, where her funeral service will follow at 11 AM.
