Although her life here came to an unexpected end much too soon, Sarah Bacon made a significant impact in the lives of those around her. She was kindhearted, genuine, and thoughtful toward others with a love for life that was easy to see. Sarah experienced so many of the best things that life has to offer, but nothing was better than becoming a mother to the children she adored. Life wasn’t always easy for Sarah, but she made the most of the days she was given. She will be deeply missed, but her family finds comfort in her eternal home.

The 1980s were a decade to remember in America. Michael Jackson and Madonna became big names in the music industry while movies like Top Gun, The Karate Kid, and St. Elmo’s Fire entertained the nation on the sliver screen. Car phones, camcorders, and the first compact discs were among the latest trends in technology that would usher in the electronic age. Amidst this exciting time was the year 1986 when Mark and Janet Bacon welcomed their adopted daughter, Sarah Nicole, who was born on January 10th, into their hearts and home. She was an only child and was raised in their safe and secure family home on Bowne Street, NE in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Sarah’s father worked in collections while her mother worked in accounting for the Meijer corporate office. Her parents would later divorce.

For the most part, Sarah experienced an upbringing that was typical for the youth of her generation. Their family spent holidays with extended family and also enjoyed vacations to Florida to visit Sarah’s grandpa and Mackinac Island. Sports came easily to Sarah, and she played soccer, softball, and basketball. She also played the flute. Sarah attended East Oakview Elementary, Highlands Middle School, Crossroads Middle School, and Northview High School. Sarah attended church at various churches over the years including Calvary Church where she sang in the children’s choir, Sunshine Community Church, and Bella Vista Church.

There was never anything of greater importance in Sarah’s life than the ones she loved. She met her longtime boyfriend, Anthony Dudley, Jr., while roller skating when they were teens. Sarah and Anthony dated on and off again until Sarah’s death. Together they were blessed with two children, Seth in 2003 and Audrey in 2007, and her children were the light of Sarah’s life. She loved being a homemaker and full-time mother, and she was very protective of her children. Sarah was also the court-appointed guardian of her three-year-old niece, Renee Harmson, whom she welcomed and loved as her own. Some of her most precious memories were made while vacationing with her children in Florida as well as to Mackinac Island and to her uncle’s cabin up North. Sarah enjoyed cooking and baking, often watching the Food Network to gain inspiration and new ideas. Among her favorites were chicken and roast, and when eating out she enjoyed going to Logan’s. When relaxing, Sarah liked Stephen King novels as well as listening to rap and rock music.

All who knew Sarah Bacon would agree that she was one of the sweetest people around. She had a fun-loving spirit of adventure, and she enjoyed both scary movies and thrill rides. Sarah could be quiet at times, and she was always sincere and genuine with the best of intentions in her mind and her heart. Life will never be the same without Sarah here, but her family and friends will forever hold her memory near and dear to their hearts.

Sarah N. Bacon, Grand Rapids, MI, On November 26, 2017, Sarah unexpectedly went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sarah was born on January 10, 1986 in Marshall, MI. She attended Northview high school. Sarah loved animals, especially her fur babies Molly and Dot, and enjoyed playing basketball during her growing up years. But most of all, Sarah loved being a mom. She is survived by her children, Seth & Audrey Bacon-Dudley; niece, Renee Harmson; mother, Janet Bacon of Grand Rapids; father, Mark Bacon of Kalamazoo; longtime companion, Anthony Dudley, Jr. of Grand Rapids & his mother, Sherri Dudley of Grand Rapids; great aunts, Versa Stoner of Rockford & Helen Ancans of Grand Rapids; and many cousins, including Brian (Robin) Stoner of Rockford, Kathy (Fred) Lyons of Fenwick, Kevin Stoner of Grand Rapids, Carol Byslma of Grand Rapids, Nancy (Eddie) Cook of Grand Rapids, Janice Vander Herst of Grand Rapids, Don (Lola) Nelson of Hastings, and Shirley Inman of Grand Rapids. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Orville & Frieda Nelson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 2 at 11 AM at Frontline Community Church, 4411 Plainfield Ave NE. Friends may visit with her family on Thursday from 6-8 PM at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, 1833 Plainfield Ave NE. Memorials may be made to Guillain-Barre Syndrome Foundation or to Humane Society of West Michigan.
