Sara Becker

Becker, Sara L. Kalamazoo, MI Sara L. Becker passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, MI. She was the daughter of James Alexander Sweetland and Barbara Louise Balz Sweetland. Sara was born May 2, 1948 in Kalamazoo and was a lifelong resident. Sara was a member of the Kalamazoo Garden Club, Art League and Kalamazoo Country Club. Sara was a beloved friend to many in the Kalamazoo community and known for her exceptional aesthetic taste and talent in interior design (previous owner of Sarafina in Oakwood Plaza), as well as her adventurous spirit and extensive travel. Sara was a woman of exceptional class, graciousness, humor, and generosity. Sara was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Roger T. Becker, on September 2, 2015, with whom she enjoyed more than 36 years of passionate love and devotion. Sara is survived by five children: Matteo Melosi (Ida Faye Webster) of Ann Arbor, MI, Amber (Stephen) Aponte of Ridge, NY, Kimberley (James) Person of Arlington, VA, Michael (Alison Larkin) Becker of Boulder, CO, and Alicia Becker of New York, NY; seven grandchildren; an uncle, aunt, and cousins. Sara will be missed by her family and friends but are comforted knowing that she and Roger are reunited and already on their next adventure. Private services and burial will be held at a later date.
