Ruth Lorraine Miller, age 93, of Paw Paw, MI passed away January 14, 2017. She was born to the late Roscoe and Ellen (Moore) Jennings on March 11, 1923 in Viroqua, Wisconsin. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Donna (Phil Christofano) Hutchison, son, Jerome (Sue) Miller, step daughters, Donna Mock, Cindy (Mike) Samuels and Mary Alfieri, step sons, Timothy Alfieri, James Alfieri and David Alfieri, three grandchildren, Emily (David) Lund, Dan (Ashley) Miller and Christopher (Donna) Hutchison, two great grandchildren, Torrey Hutchison and Jocelyn Miller and one step great grandson, Michael Mock along with many nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Don Miller, her second husband, James Alfieri and her step son, Robert Alfieri. Trying to count the number of lives Ruth touched would be impossible. She taught English, Yearbook, Typing and Journalism for years at Paw Paw High School and helped all the students she loved. She then taught night school to adults getting their diplomas, and finally taught at the jail to help inmates get their GEDs. After that, she became a volunteer with Hospice and helped others leave this world with less suffering. She was a deacon and elder and everything in between at the Presbyterian Church and taught Bible Study and other types of religious themes for years upon years. She cooked and served food to less fortunate every Thanksgiving at the community Thanksgiving, and she actually took in people who were leaving jail to live with her when they didn't have a home. She gave her money to anyone who asked, even though she didn't have much to spare. She will be missed by all. A memorial service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Paw Paw, with Rev. Tiffany McCafferty officiating. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Paw Paw or to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
