Ruth I. Krogh, (nee:Steineke), 91, passed away at Artisan Assisted Living, on Thursday, September 3, 2015. She passed peacefully into His presence.

She was born in Ripon, WI on March 3, 1924 to the late Howard and Myrtle Steineke (nee: Parmelee). Ruth graduated from Omro High School in 1941. Her first job was at Barlow and Seelig (maker of Speed Queen washing machines. Later she moved to Milwaukee and was employed during the war at A. O. Smith as a welder. After marriage and her children in school full time, she worked for the Precise Corporation as a bookkeeper for over 28 years, retiring in 1989.

On a train trip home to visit her parents in Omro on Mother’s Day 1946, she met a couple gentlemen trying to figure out words to a song, “Tell Me Why”. She told them she knew the words to that song. That is how she met her husband, Harold Krogh. They were married on March 13, 1948 and he preceded her in death on March 19, 1991. Ruth enjoyed dancing and harmonizing along with her husband to the sound of big band music.

Ruth loved her children and later her grandchildren and would do just about anything for them. She did beautiful counted cross stitch work until her eyes could no longer see close up. Other than family and cross stitch, her only other hobby was to worry about everyone. She would be the first one to admit this.

Although we lost her to Alzheimer’s a few years ago, and she didn’t know us anymore, we know deep in her heart she would know that she will be dearly missed by her children; David (Jeanne) Krogh of Racine, Donna (Charlie) Runnels of Burnham, Maine, Sharon (Scott) Thornton of Racine; grandchildren; Michael Krogh, Jonathan (Kristen) Krogh, Brandon Krogh, Crystal Krogh, Jana (Randy) Venne, Matthew Francis, Daniel Thornton, and Timothy (Rebeca) Thornton. She is further survived by nine great-grandchildren; Kaitlyn & Leah Krogh, Drewe Krogh, Jordyn & Myla Krogh, Haley, Allison & Drew Venne, and Jordy Thornton being the last great-grandchild that was born on her 90th birthday; a brother Ed (Karen) Steineke; a dear friend and sister-in-law; Rita Krogh; a step daughter Marilyn (Jerry) St. Clair; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Art Leu.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2015, 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Wayne Beilgard officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association have been suggested.

Ruth’s family would like to express their appreciation for the care she received at Artisan Assisted Living, especially Denise, and to Allay Hospice and the loving care she received there, especially Hillary.

“Absent from the body, present with the Lord.”
