Ronald G. Hoard

Hoard, Ronald G. Kalamazoo Age 89, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023. Ron was born in Kalamazoo on June 28, 1933, the son of Guy and Nordah (Camfield) Hoard. On May 9, 1953, he married Frances Lockwood who survives him. Ron graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1951. He worked for over thirty years at The Upjohn Company. Many of those years he worked as a Lead Chemical Operator. He enjoyed golfing and fishing. Ron proudly served his country from 1953-1955 in the United States Army. He was a member of Bethany Reformed Church, Community Advocates and the Civitan Club. Ron is well remembered as the Winter Downhill Ski Coach for the Special Olympics Area 16, a capacity he held for ten years. He and Fran were active volunteers for Residential Opportunities, Inc. In 2011, they received an award from Community Mental Health for their years of advocacy for people with disabilities and their long-time dedication to those with continuing needs. Besides his wife, Ron is survived by his daughters, Nancy Ann Hoard and Jeanne Lynn Hoard; nieces and nephews; and many friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lee Hoard; and a sister, Norine Rundio. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo. Ron will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
