Passed away Wednesday afternoon March 18, 2020 with his family by his side at Bronson Methodist Hospital from influenza, pneumonia and leukemia. Bob was born July 13, 1949 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his father Adolph C. Eichler and his mother Ione M. (Virkus) Eichler (born Henrietta "Attie Ellen" Mackey), and aunts, uncles and nieces. Surviving is his loving wife of 48 years Linda K. (Andersen) Eichler, 1 brother Wesley A. (Roberta) Eichler, 2 precious daughters whom he selflessly adored, protected, loved and did anything and everything for! Lisa C. (Martin Johnson) Eichler-Johnson and Wendy J. (Adam) Haughn. 3 of the best grandchildren in the whole world Gabriella B. Johnson, Elliott R. Johnson, and Christopher W.E. Haughn. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was a salesman and Prudential Insurance agent, and he enjoyed his time with Childcare Resources as a family home daycare consultant. However, his favorite working years were with his wife Linda when he partnered with her to run their daycare home Sunshine & Rainbows. No one could have ever asked for a more wonderful friend, husband, father and grandfather. He was adored by children at Sunshine & Rainbows daycare for 44 years. Kids loved to crawl up on his lap and relax and take in all the preciousness of being loved and held. He was a natural born educator and had a great sense of humor. He fiercely protected his wife and they were inseparable, always doing everything together in a marriage that most people would dream for. Bob graduated from St. Joseph High School and Ferris State University. He was a member of Lambda Sigma Phi. He loved playing a fierce game of croquet, MSU and Michigan basketball, fast cars and adored maps and travel. We always joked that he was MapQuest before MapQuest was created and in today's world still liked to challenge if Google directions were always the best choice. The greatest trip besides their California honeymoon was going to Alaska to see the sites of Caribou running, the Arctic Circle and Ocean, the Brooks Range over the permafrost and the Wrangell-St. Ellias Mountains, Denali, and fishing for Halibut. The family would like to thank the entire Bronson Hospital team who tirelessly tried to save his life and provide him comfort. They worked around the clock giving him excellent care. We also wish to express thanks for past and present business families, friends, neighbors who have given us their time, sent cards, phone calls, food and words of support to help our family. He loved his lifelong friends from elementary, high school and college, and he will truly miss them. Donations may be directed to his wife, Linda Eichler to proceed forward with her life without her life and business partner. According to Bob's wishes, he has been cremated with no services or visitation. A celebration of Bob's life will be held this summer, mostly likely at or near his favorite Lake Michigan Beach in St. Joseph Michigan around his birthday. Please visit Bob's personalized webpage for online guestbook or to leave a condolence. Arrangements were made by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. https://www.langelands.com
