Vorva, Robert S. Kalamazoo, MI Robert Stanley Vorva born August 22, 1936, died February 6, 2023, at age 86. Robert was born in Mount Pleasant, Ohio to William (Bill) and Ruth (Shannon) Vorva he was one of five children. Growing up in Mount Pleasant, Ohio and later Flat Rock, Michigan. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1954, reenlisting two more times in 1963, and 1966. While serving 15 years in the Marine Corps he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal w/5 stars (5x) Vietnamese Service Medal w/3 stars (3x), Vietnamese Campaign w/Device Medal, National Defense Service Medal, also an Action Combat Ribbon. He served three tours in Vietnam. He was then honorably discharged in 1969, achieving rank of Staff Sergeant. Returning to civilian life he started working at Neals automotive in Kalamazoo until 1983, when he took a position at the VA Medical Center in Battle Creek, MI. He earned multiple performance awards, completed 35 years of dedicated service to the government of the United States of America, and retired February 28, 2003, He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Clydey Pauline (Postell) Vorva; granddaughter, Brandy Lynn (Wine) Abrams; 3 brothers, Junior, Jerry, and Regis and sister, Ruth Ann (Vorva) Shoup. He leaves behind six children, three sons and three daughters: Jerry Vorva of Plymouth, MI, Sandra (Vorva) Young, Robert W. Vorva, Norma (Vorva) Williams, David Vorva of Kalamazoo, MI, and Modesta (Vorva) Johnson of Nashville, TN. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held 10-11AM Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 622 S. Burdick St, Kalamazoo MI 49007 where services will begin at 11AM. Interment with military honors will follow at 1:30PM in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should be in the cemetery assembly area by 1:15.
