Age 76, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Robert (Bob) was born in Kalamazoo, MI, on December 13, 1942, the son of William Joel Maze and Lola Florence Beatrice Liles. He is survived by his children, Michele Maze Brown (Wyatt), William Richard Maze, Daniela Maze Litjens (Bart); seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Robert attended Kalamazoo Central High School and graduated from Military Police School (Provost Marshal General School) in 1960. From there he joined the Army as a Military Police officer. He had a distinguished career in the Military, being involved with War Plans Operations during the Cuban missile crisis, and in securing the Apollo Project and the White Sands (NM) Missile Range. He served in Germany, Japan and Hawaii, before being deployed to Viet Nam. While there, he was stationed here during the two week riot that occurred in August,1968. After peace was restored at the prison, Robert then supervised and participated in military police patrols north of Saigon in the Iron Triangle. He also served at Leavenworth Military Prison where he worked before going back to Germany. He ended his career as a Senior Instructor at Ft. Gordon Army Military Police School. He retired as a Staff Sergeant E-6 in October of 1974 with honorable discharge, after which he graduated from Kalamazoo Valley Community College with an Engineering Degree in Tool and Die. He worked in the Kalamazoo area. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, building computers, spending time with family and his cats. Services with full military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta, MI, on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at 2:30 p.m. For those attending please meet at the Cortege Assembly Area at 2:15 p.m. To make a lasting gift in Robert's memory, please consider the Battle Creek VA Medical Center Community and Volunteer Service, c/o the funeral home.
