DeBoer, Robert "Bob" 5/23/1946 - 5/2/2020 Fort Myers, FL Robert Frederick DeBoer, 73, passed away on 05/02/20 after a short battle with lung cancer. Born in Kalamazoo MI, in 1946, Bob graduated from Portage Northern high school before enrolling and serving in the National Guard. Returning to Kalamazoo, he spent the majority of his working career at Michigan Bell before moving to Fort Myers, FL in 1990. In Fort Myers, Bob continued working until his retirement in 2006, leaving him time to pursue a life of leisure. In 1979, Bob married his best friend and sole mate, Susan Graham, also from Kalamazoo. While living in Michigan, Bob enjoyed boating on Lake Michigan and vacationing with friends Tom and Eva House of Kalamazoo, MI. An avid sports fan, Bob could always be found watching sport of all kinds. Bob, a skilled handyman who built his own house while in Kalamazoo, enjoyed working around his house and yard in Fort Myers. Prior to moving to Florida, Bob was an active member of the Otsego Elks Club. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Paul A. DeBoer, Edith Sopjes DeBoer and stepmother Mildred DeBoer. Surviving him are his loving wife of 41 years, Susan DeBoer, his daughter, Casandra DeBoer (Gerard Grappie) of Fort Myers, FL, son, Bradley DeBoer (Debbie), of Mattawan, MI, and grandsons Nathan DeBoer and Colin DeBoer of Mattawan, MI. Bob leaves a sister, Nanette DeBoer, stepsisters Katy (Skip) Geiger, Barbara (Bob) Sweezy, and stepbrother David Brink, along with several nieces and nephews. In the final stages of Bob's life, he and his family were treated with care, respect and dignity by the professional nurses and caregivers of Hope Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations, in the name of Robert DeBoer, be made to Hope Healthcare at www.hopehospice.org.
