Richard VanBeek

Richard VanBeek, age 96, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 5, 2017. Rich spent a major part of his life as chaplain to the men in the Kent County Sheriff’s Honor Camp where he faithfully presented Jesus Christ to the men. Rich is now with the One about Whom he witnessed so faithfully. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Dena VanBeek and his brother Joseph. He is survived by two nieces, two nephews and many friends. Rich operated an electronic repair business on West Leonard and was a proud alumnus of Grand Rapids Christian High School. His commitment to GRC led to an unbelievable record of attendance at the school’s various sporting events including his presence at all state finals contests. A plaque dedicated to Rich hangs in the school’s athletic Hall of Fame. Rich was also a “rock hound,” collecting, restoring and showing a massive amount of stones and rocks. Rich faithfully attended New Community Church for over 40 years where his funeral service will be held on Friday, December 8 at 1:00. Visitation will be one hour before.
