Richard Ertz

Ertz, Richard "Dick" L. Portage, Michigan Richard "Dick" Ertz, age 86 of Portage, died on May 17, 2022. He was born in Quincy, Illlinois, on August 18, 1935, the son of Fay and Alberta (Pond) Ertz. He was a graduate of Jacksonville High School. Dick served in the U.S. Army, where he ran the Officer's Club in France. While stationed there he fell in love with Christiane Caron and they were married on October 23, 1959, in Bar-le-Duc, France. In 1970, Dick opened A Pizza Yen in Portage. He also ran the Windjammer Banquet Hall and later Uncle Dick's Picnics catering. He enjoyed life more than most people. Meeting new people and learning their stories was one of his greatest hobbies. His family includes his wife, Chris Ertz; his children: Anthony (Jane) Ertz and Michelle (Mark) Rosenbach; his grandchildren: Daniel (Lauren) Ertz and Emilia (Chris) Maertens; his great-granddaughter, Mila Ertz; his sister, Emma Sue (Joe) Arbic; and several nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Fay, Jr. and Ronald Ertz. Friends may visit with his family on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 5:00-8:00 PM, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S. 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home with Pastor Adam Davidson officiating. Friends may greet the family for an hour before the funeral service. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
