Richard was born August 26, 1923 to Chester and Mildred Dodge of Grand Rapids. Dick received from his parents a deep tradition of family, which with Lorraine endured through joy, sorrow, sickness and death of a child. The Lord did give, every day of their lives, great meaning. In 1942, after graduating from Creston High School, he enlisted during WWII in the U.S. Navy. In December of 1945, upon discharge from service, he returned to Grand Rapids. In 1986, he retired from Steelcase, Inc..

From childhood school years and through his life he was blessed with talents and gifts that served him well to a life of love, faith and thanksgiving.

His favorite hymn, Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All, will be sung at his funeral Mass. Internment at Fairplains Cemetery, G.R., MI. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to his parish of Blessed Sacrament Church.
