Raymen Forrest Emery, 76, of East Leroy, died July 3, 2007 at home. He was born April 27, 1931, the son of Raymen G. and Elsie A. (McElwain) in Washington, Pennsylvania.

Ray served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a First Lieutenant from 1954 until 1956. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and worked as a mechanical engineer for the Bendix Corporation in Mishawaka, Indiana, Baltimore, Maryland, and Newport News, Virginia. He then worked for Eaton Manufacturing in Battle Creek and then worked at the Eaton Proving Grounds in Marshall until he retired. After retirement Ray owned his own business as an accident re-construction engineer consultant. Ray was a member of S.A.E. and was a licensed Professional Engineer in Indiana and Michigan throughout his career.

Ray married Mary Janis Rutherford on August 10, 1958; she survives. He is also survived by his sons, Raymen L. (Tammy) Emery of Springport, Indiana, Robert W. (Kandice) Emery of Battle Creek, and John L. (Laura) Emery of Westminster, Colorado; his daughter, Alice (Timothy) Goodman of Rivaz, Switzerland; eight grandchildren and a ninth expected in September; and brothers, William R. (Claire) Emery of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Arden M. (Mary Lou) Emery of Wilmington, Delaware.

Ray was a member of the Marshall Rotary Club and St. Mark Lutheran Church where he was a choir member and stewardship board member for many years. He was an avid model railroad and airplane hobbyist. He also loved his dogs. Music was of great interest to Ray throughout his life. He enjoyed playing the organ and he volunteered with the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra serving on the symphony board, serving as President of Friends of the Orchestra (FOTO) and was a member of the AccessVision production team for symphony programs.

Friends are welcome to visit from 5 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Shaw Funeral Home and from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Monday at St. Mark Lutheran Church. Services will take place 1:00 p.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Maurice Shackell, officiating. Interment, with military honors, Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may go to the Marshall Rotary Foundation, St. Mark Lutheran Church and the American Heart Association. The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home. www.shawfuneral home.com
