Phyllis Jean Weurding, 92, of Lawton, MI, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2019. She was born on June 1, 1927, in Paw Paw, MI, the daughter of R. Lyle Parker and Dorothy (Nicholson) Parker. Phyllis grew up on the family farm in Decatur. She loved to help care for the animals, plant in the garden, and enjoy the outdoors. She graduated from Decatur High School and later from Michigan State University with her Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology. She married her husband Roger in 1947, and began their family. They shared a beautiful 59 years together before he preceded her in 2006. Phyllis enjoyed gardening, traveling, dancing, bridge club, needlework, crocheting, and other crafts. She was a socialite and loved entertaining her family and friends through the years. A member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Lawton, she loved her church activities and volunteering for the various committees. Phyllis was also a member of the Lawton school board and she volunteered many years to the Lakeview Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by Children, Christine (Michael) Grant of Holland, MI, Carol Sue (Murray) Moerman of British Columbia, and Dean (Lori) Weurding of Lawton, MI, Sisters, Marian Smith, and Katie Parker, seven Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren, and a host of other loving family and friends. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roger D. Weurding. Friends will be received at Adams Funeral Home, 502 w. Michigan Ave., on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Services will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at 11:00 am. A private family interment will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery, Lawton, MI. In lei of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or Hospice Care of SW Michigan.
