Harris, Phyllis Irene Kalamazoo Phyllis was born to Irving and Dorothy Sadoff in East Orange, New Jersey on July 18, 1929. In the summer of 1947 she fell in love with Harold Harris. They married two years later, and remained happily married for 64 years until Harold's death in 2013. With their three sons, they enjoyed traveling the world, and spent extended periods living in southern France and in Istanbul. Phyllis graduated summa cum laude from Western Michigan University, where she was the first recipient of the Arden Elsasser Scholarship for excellence in political science. Throughout her life, Phyllis remained engaged in world events, and was an avid reader of all genres. She was a long-time member of the League of Women Voters, serving on its Board of Directors for six years. Phyllis was also an active volunteer, involved in a variety of programs for children with learning disabilities, and assisting in research projects focused on discrimination against women in education. From 1979 until her retirement in 2005, she worked in the premium division of H&R Block as a tax consultant. Phyllis is survived by her three sons and their partners, David (Sharyn Feller) Harris, Dan (Marilyn) Harris, and Larry (Madeline Weller) Harris, her four granddaughters, Rachel, Lauren, Leah, and Arielle Harris, her brother and sister-in-law, Wallace and Phyllis Sadoff, and her daughter-in-law, Jean Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Harris, and her daughter-in-law, Jody Harris. Private interment will take place in Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
