Age 90 of Kalamazoo passed away early Monday morning, June 16, 2025. Phyllis was born in Kalamazoo, on January 24, 1935, the daughter of Donald Ambrose and Evelyn (Graham) O'Brien. On January 28, 1956, she married Richard Donald Bogren who preceded her in death in 2013. Phyllis had a long career as a realtor in the Greater Kalamazoo area. She was the first woman President of the Kalamazoo Board of Realtors and the first woman to be Realtor of the Year. In her spare time Phyllis loved to read. She was a long-time member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where she also had served on the original school board. Her true passion was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Phyllis is survived by her children, Richard M. (Michelle) Bogren of Parchment, Michael S. (Katherine Lamb) Bogren of Hastings, Susan M. Mandrick of Kalamazoo and Nancy A. (Richard) Strzynski of Paw Paw; grandchildren, Sara (Chad), Jessi, Becca (Carrick), Charles (Laura), Joseph, Daniel (Caitlin), Rachel, Richard, Andrew; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Michael (Yvonne) O'Brien, Robert (Gee) O'Brien, Kermit (Dennis Yike) O'Brien; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends. Besides her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret (Noel) Johnson; brother, Roderick (Ann) O'Brien, William (Eileen) O'Brien. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Parish, 1628 East G Ave. Kalamazoo, with the Very Rev. Albert Kemboi, presiding. The service will be live streamed on the church's website at www.stambroseparchment.com/ . No visitation hours are scheduled. Phyllis will be laid to rest next to her husband at East Cooper Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, in c/o the funeral home.
