Peter Mureika

Mureika, Mr. Peter M. Portage, MI Passed away Tuesday evening, November 22, 2016. Pete was born September 12, 1954 in Chicago, IL the son of Peter T. and Aldona (Chapulis) Mureika. He graduated in 1972 from Portage Northern High School. Pete began his working career as a mechanic at his father's Sunoco station and later joined Quality Air Service in 1979 as a warehouse and delivery person. He soon moved into a position as an HVAC technician and Cleanroom specialist until his retirement in 2011. Pete liked motorcycles, cars, trucks, and boats. He enjoyed driving them and working on them all. He loved modifying and tinkering to make them faster; and could rebuild most anything. Pete was also proficient with computers and car audio systems. He spent many summers at South Haven, boating and enjoying Lake Michigan. He was never married, but always had at least one dog; sometimes two or even three. They were his companions over the years. Pete was a generous and giving person, who always had time to help his family and friends when they needed it. He asked for nothing in return. Pete was preceded in death by his parents; and an older brother, Jim. He is survived by his siblings, Anne (Gale) Stephens of Portage, Thomas (Susan) Mureika of Kalamazoo, Chuck (Cathy) Mureika of Kalamazoo, Anita (Paul) DeYoung of Paw Paw; nephews, Sean (Ashtynn) DeYoung, Chris, Colin, and Stephen DeYoung, and Jason Mureika; a niece, Andrea DeYoung; and an uncle, Justin Mureika. A memorial gathering will be held from 5-8pm Friday December 2, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Private interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
