Slack, Norman Eugene 3/23/1931 - 6/27/2022 Kalamazoo, MI Norman Eugene Slack passed from this earth on June 27, 2022 at Rose Arbor Medical Facility. He was born on March 23, 1931 to Raymond and Flossie Slack and spent his childhood years in Kalamazoo. Norm received a scholarship to attend Western Michigan University for his BS degree. His education was interrupted by serving two years in the military as a Personal Administrative Specialist. After that he returned to Western Michigan University and completed his Masters Degree. Norm started his teaching legacy as an Art Supervisor with the Springfield Michigan Public School System. His college teaching experiences have included the following institutions: Southern Illinois University, Perdue University, Indiana University of PA, and Western Michigan University. While serving at Western Michigan University he received the Meritorious Teaching Award for his outstanding teaching skills. Norm touched many students lives in a most creative way and he will be remembered for his endless inspiration to others. As well as teaching, Norm had a flourishing career in the interior design world. He did both commercial and residential design. Retirement has not been an idle time for Norm. He used his talents to create a memorial garden named in honor of his parents who instilled a love of horticulture in him. The Slack Gardens are visited by many for weddings, meditation and picture venues. The Slack Gardens also host many Midwest Garden Clubs. He is survived by a cousin Gloria Greig of Reading PA. Donations in his honor may be made to the Norman E. Slack Scholarship at Western Michigan University or ASPC Kalamazoo Chapter A private service will take place at a future date.
