Norman Paul Hansen

Passed away Monday, June 20, 2016 at his home following a brief illness. Norman was born December 28, 1934 in Chicago, IL, the son of William and Signe (Nystrom) Hansen. Norman served in the Army Reserves between 1961 and 1967 from which he was honorably discharged. Norman "Pops" enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as cruising the lake on his pontoon boat. He loved finishing the day off with his favorite snack, Dairy Queen ice cream. In 1967, he began working at Sherman TV and Appliance, retiring in 2000. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Marilee (Lowry) Hansen of Portage; Children Jeff (Michele) Hansen of Kalamazoo and Vicky (George) Haislip of Lawrence; Grandchildren Rex (Amanda) Woodruff of Kalamazoo, Morgan Hansen of Charlotte, NC, Zoey and Cansyn Haislip of Lawrence; Great-granddaughter Madelyn Woodruff of Kalamazoo; Sister Dorothy Potter of Kalamazoo; In-laws Roger and Ellie Lowry of Richland and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers William Hansen and Roger Hansen. Services will be held Friday, July 1, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church, 9316 Oakland Dr. in Portage, with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or a charity of your choice .
