Norman James Haupt was born in Oak Park, IL on May 17,1924, and he died peacefully in Kalamazoo, with family nearby, on September 25, 2020. Norm was a gentle man who adored his family. Norm served in the Navy during WWII. The Navy sent him to Tulane University to earn a degree in business administration. Norm enjoyed his career as an accountant. He worked for Parmalee Transportation in Chicago, and then transferred to Checker Motors in Kalamazoo, rising to be the Company Controller. His first love was his family, starting with his wife of 68 years, Johanna, who survives him. Their love just kept growing and growing over the years, and family nicknamed them the lovebirds. He always adored babies, and they adored him. He leaves behind many descendants, four children: Karen (Brad), David (Courtney), Eric (Debra) and Steven. 15 Grandchildren: Jason, Chris, and Michael; Xavier and Ryan; Benjamin, Kristalyn, Breanna, Amanda, Debi, Emil, and Lucas; Jacob, Lyric and Diedre. He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He retained his love of automobiles throughout his life and gifted his prized 1980 Checker Marathon to his grandsons. It has been restored and resides in Minnesota. Norm had an amazing sense of humor, dry at times, punny at others, and this has been handed down to several children in the family. Many who met him would comment on his sense of humor. He loved to travel, and there were many family car trips across the US and Canada. He was an avid golfer and continued playing into his late 80's. He also loved Duplicate Bridge, earning his Life Master. Norm was truly blessed and shall be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was cremated, at his request, and there will be a private celebration of his life at a later date. Please visit Norman's personalized web page at https://langelands.com
