Major (Ret.) Norman G. Chapin, age 86, of Jenison, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007. He was born February 28, 1921 in Grandville, MI to Dr. Howard Alvinza (DVM) and Muriel (Merle Pearsall) Chapin. He will be sadly missed and loving remembered by his children, Norm (Barb) Chapin, Linda Teunis, Laura (Mark) Bentley; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; his sister, Gwen Schulz of Rockford, MI and his brother Lt. Colonel (Ret. USMC) Howard A. Chapin of Whitefish MT; nieces, nephews and many friends. Norman enlisted in the US army during World War II and served in the infantry until his retirement. He served in ETO, WWII, Panama, Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired at the rank of Major in 1965. He then worked for the Hudsonville Post Office as a mail carrier for 17 years. He was an avid sportsman and nature lover and a cancer survivor. The family would like to express a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Sheldon Meadows and also to the thoughtful, caring personnel of Faith Hospice. The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home, Grandville (west building) 4235 Prairie St. Graveside Military Honors will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Grandville Cemetery.
