Obituary
Nick Evan Carson passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025. He was born in Iowa on September 8, 1932.
After his family moved to Michigan, he attended Galesburg High School and was a sports standout in football and track. After graduating, he started college at Western Michigan University but interrupted his studies to enlist in the Navy. During the Korean War, he served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea where he worked as an aircraft mechanic. Nick also served on Shore Patrol while in foreign ports and performed Nat King Cole covers for the sailors at USO shows. After being honorably discharged in 1955, he returned to his studies. After college, Nick began his career as a manufacturer's representative for Ball Band Footwear and later for Uniroyal; he retired in 1990. During his long retirement, Nick remained active with travel, projects around the house and applied his business skills to charitable work with Ambucs. He served as president of the Kalamazoo Chapter of Ambucs. He also loved hosting gatherings and spending time with friends and family.
Nick was preceded in death by his father, James George Carson (Demetrios Gianakaras); his mother, Esther, and his siblings James, George, William, Evelyn (Story), and Beverly. Nick is survived by his wife of 72 years, Elsie; his sister, Elaine (Kiefer); his children, Mark, Patricia, Susan (Held), and Steven; eight grandchildren, four great-granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews. Nick is already missed by those who love him.
