Minnie Wilcox

Minnie Valentine (nee Nelson) Wilcox, age 99, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away peacefully, September 16, 2016, at Friendship Village under hospice care. She was preceded in death by her husband Glade Wilcox, Sr. and her son, Richard Henry Wilcox. Minnie will be lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses; Cherrill (David) Colson, Thomas (Kay) Wilcox, Jr., Mary Candace (Raghe) Gejji, and Hildur (Mark) Hanna; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; friends who were like family (Chester Cook, Carolyn Smoke, Danny Lam, Wendy Fang, Velte Toledo, and Viviane Nitcheu) and numerous friends, nieces and nephews. She attended Western Michigan University (Bachelor of Arts and Master of Psychology) and after an early career teaching grade school she became a reading specialist for Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) for twenty years. After retirement, Minnie and Glade taught at Central Philippines University as educational volunteers. Minnie also volunteered as a reading teacher internationally, sewed clothes for African Missions, and worked with the Christian Appalachian Project. A Memorial will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, October 15th, at First Baptist Church of Kalamazoo, 315 W. Michigan Ave. Donations may be made in memory of Minnie to Friendship Village, 1400 N. Drake, Kalamazoo, 49006, Attn: Student Scholarship Fund. Arrangements are being handled by Langeland Family Funeral Home of Kalamazoo
