Surrounded by her family, Melody Leah Carter, age 73, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2016, at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee due to unexpected complications that arose after heart surgery. She was born in Racine, April 22, 1943, daughter of the late Kerry and Skip (Nee: Danielson) Wohlust.

Melody was a 1961 graduate of William Horlick High School and a 1965 graduate of UW-Madison.

On September 25, 1965, she was united in marriage to Robert J. Carter and together they raised 4 sons in Baraboo, WI. Melody was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Baraboo where she published the church newsletter for many years in addition to teaching Sunday School and serving on several church committees. She was an active member and past president of the Baraboo Jaycettes, the Baraboo Hospital Auxiliary, a Welcome Wagon Hostess, and a member of A.A.U.W. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, music, and reading, but it was time spent with her children and grandchildren that she treasured the most. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, Grandy and friend who will be dearly missed.

Left to cherish Melody’s memory is her loving husband of 51 years, Bob; her 4 sons and 8 grandchildren, Kerry (Rachael) of London, England (Zachary and Oliver), Scott of Minneapolis, Chad (Kristy) of Green Bay (Kaeley and Kynsie), Michael (Sheila) of Racine (Madison, Mia, Cameron, Logan); her 3 sisters, Lani Braley, Autumn (John) Lenart, Paris (Tashe) Bozinovski; sister-in-law Jean Carter, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

A Celebration of Melody’s Life will be held in Racine on Friday, December 23, 2016, at the Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home and then again in Baraboo on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Both Celebrations will be held between 10:00 A.M. and noon with services to begin at 11:30 A.M. with Pastor David Jensen officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be welcomed to Our Savior Lutheran Church,1120 Draper St, Baraboo, WI, or the William Horlick High School Class of ’61 Henrietta Welch Music Scholarship.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her care providers at Ascension All Saints in Racine, DaVita Willow Creek Dialysis of Racine and all the caregivers of St. Luke’s Cardiovascular ICU in Milwaukee.
