Matthew L. Tometczak, age 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home, Union Grove, WI. Always the entertainer, he is now singing and dancing on his eternal stage.

Matthew was born in Chicago, IL, April 14, 1929, son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Nee: Fuhrman) Tometczak. Shortly after his birth he was raised at the family farmstead near Necedah, WI. He left the farm in 1948 and found employment at the Belle City Malleable Iron Company in Racine. At the time it was a short term plan. He served in the U.S. Army – Dixie Division from 1951-1953 during the Korean Conflict Era. Upon discharge he returned to Belle City/Racine Steel Castings and gave 54 years of service. Matt enjoyed singing and polka dancing every Sunday night. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his children, Len (Lynn) Tometczak of Elkhorn, WI, Paulette Vanko of Arizona; grandchildren, Jeremy Tometczak of Texas, Jesalyn (Kevin) Stephens of Racine, Preston Vanko of Racine, Angelique Vanko of Arizona, Mike and Heather Gaitens of Racine, Conan and Tammy Cecconie of Orando, FL; great grandchildren, Sawyer, Kennedy, and Porter Stephens of Racine, Alana Nicole Vanko of Racine, Tyler Cecconie of Racine, Chloe Grace Cecconie of Orlando, FL; a brother, Joseph (Nancy) Tometczak of Caledonia; sister, Charlotte Yusten of Milwaukee; many nieces and nephews, throughout Wisconsin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his former wife, Leona; his twin sister, Bernice; brothers, Stanley and Edward; sister-in-law, Mary Tometczak; brother-in-laws, Albin Sliwicki and Phil Yusten.

Interment services with Full Military Honors will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Tuesday, April 7, 2015, 2:00 P.M. Please meet at the chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials to Vitas Hospice have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend the upmost thanks to his caregivers, volunteers, and friends at the Union Grove Veterans Home; his final caregivers from Vitas Hospice who went above and beyond; to Rebecca Mason throughout this; and finally to his daughter-in-law, Lynn. Her unconditional love and care was there for him no matter the situation or time of day.
