DeRyder, Mary Louise "Mary Lou" (Kline) of New Tripoli, PA, formerly of Richland, MI Mary Lou, age 93, died Monday morning, October 4, 2021 at her daughter's residence in New Tripoli with her loving family at her side. Mary Lou, the daughter of Harold and Lois (Houts) Kline, was born in Kalamazoo, MI on April 12, 1928 and was a 1946 graduate of Western Michigan High School. Following marriage to Gerald Keith "Bud" DeRyder on August 20, 1948, she moved to North Carolina where her husband, who was a Marine, was stationed during the Korean War. Then they returned to Michigan where she worked as Bud obtained a degree from Western Michigan University. When he accepted a job in the U.S. General Accounting Office in Los Angeles, California, the couple moved west. In 1964, the family moved to Maryland as Bud pursued his career. They lived there until Bud's retirement in 1986 when they moved to Florida. In 2006, they made their final move together back to Kalamazoo, Michigan. Bud preceded her in death on September 9, 2014, after 66 years of marriage. Mary then moved to Pennsylvania to be close to family. Aside from being a wife and mother in Maryland, Mary Lou attended and graduated from the local junior college with an associate degree in elementary education. She was instrumental in starting a school at the local church and volunteered there for several years. During her youngest daughter's years in college, Mary worked at the local bank as a clerk in the loan department. She was a Girl Scout leader and was active in her local church. Her hands were always busy with knitting, crocheting and needlework projects. Mary Lou was an avid reader. She always enjoyed a good game of Bingo. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were very important to her and she was involved in their lives until her last breath. Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl F. (Rod) Rodriguez of Greenbackville, VA and Joanne K. (Frank) Deeney of New Tripoli, PA; five grandchildren, Arthur (Sarah Sand) Rodriguez, David (Sarah) Rodriguez, Michael (Brittany) Deeney, Laura (Andrew) Wismer and Patrick (Samantha) Deeney; eight precious great grandchildren, Henry, Miles, Lucy, Susanna, Spencer, Lilli, Eli and Jonah, three sisters; Ethelyn "EJ" Kendrick of Olin, NC, Margaret Upson of Galesburg, MI and Martha Buttery of Richland; sister-in-law, Kay Kline of Portage, MI. Mary Lou was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, David E. in 1971; a sister, Margery Parker and a brother, Jack Kline. The funeral service to celebrate Mary Lou's life will be held on Sunday, October 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89), Richland. Mary Lou's family will greet friends on Sunday from Noon until service time at the Chapel. Interment will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland.
