Mary Johnson

Mary Beth (Moon) Johnson, 62, died unexpectedly on December 2nd in Kalamazoo, MI, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Flint, MI in May 25, 1957 to Victor and Margaret (O'Neill) Moon, their third of four children. The family moved to the Kalamazoo area in 1966 where Mary attended St. Monica School and eventually Portage Northern High School where she graduated in 1975. While in high school, she met her future husband, Dave Johnson. The two of them attended Michigan State University where she graduated in 1979. The two were married in May of 1983 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, where she remained a parishioner. Mary and Dave were blessed with two daughters, Kelly and Courtney. Mary was employed with Mann+Hummel Company for the past 21 years, prior to which she spent 17 years with First of America/National City/PNC. She was active in her community, volunteering for countless organizations, most recently MRC Industries Inc., where she was currently serving as a board member. Mary was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Dave. Also surviving are her daughters, Kelly Johnson of Detroit and Courtney Johnson of Grand Rapids; two sisters, Debbie Martin of Portage, Diane Moon of Scottsdale, AZ; a brother, Vic (Amy) Moon of Portage; her mother-in-law, Esther Johnson of Portage; a brother-in-law, Robert (Diane) Johnson of Overland Park, KS; nieces Kristen Salazar (Martin), Jenny Carter (Hawk), Allison Moon, Katelyn Moon and Carlie Johnson; nephews Tim Martin and Carl Hawk; and several cousins. A Funeral Mass will be held 11 o'clock Tuesday, December 10th at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 West Centre Ave. Visitation will be 2-4pm and 5:30 to 8pm Monday, December 9th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Private interment will take place at later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to MRC Industries or the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
