Mary Jo Becker, age 91, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, at St. Monica’s Memory Care. She was born in Racine, September 10, 1932, daughter of the late Edmund and Severine (Nee:Lochowitz) Beetcher.

Mary Jo attended Holy Name School, graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1950” and went on to get her nursing degree from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Milwaukee. On February 18, 1954, she was united in marriage to Joseph DeMatthew who preceded her in death July 30, 1964. On June 18, 1966, she was united in marriage to John Becker and he preceded her in death March 28, 2009.

Mary Jo was employed as Registered Nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital and then Racine Medical Clinic retiring in 1974. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Mary Jo enjoyed golfing, horse shows, traveling to Europe and entertaining. She was an accomplished knitter, and seamstress who enjoyed baking. Above all she treasured time spent with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her children, Jeffrey (Leneya) DeMatthew, Carol (Steve) Rawlinko, Daniel (Amy) DeMatthew, Barbara (Tim) Pawzun, James (Kathy) DeMatthew, Patti (Jason) Becker Loeb; 7 grandchildren, Joe (Lindsay) DeMatthew, Katie DeMatthew, Jamie (Michelle) DeMatthew, Elle (Adam) Britten, Nick DeMatthew, Becca (Stephen) Gow, Dana (Ken) Merkitch; great grandchildren, Aubrey, Lily, Addy, Avery, Penny, and Aloysius; in-laws; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy (Thomas) Becker.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1100 Erie Street, Friday, April 12, 2024, 11 am with Rev. Jose Mario Nieto officiating. Relatives and friends may meet prior to the service 10-11 am. Private interment will be held at Holy Family Cemetery.

Memorials to St. Monica’s Senior Living Memory Care, Hospice Alliance or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church have been suggested.
