Mary Dykehouse

Passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Bickford of Portage Senior Living. Her family was there to comfort during her last days. Mary was born October 25, 1921, in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of Forrest and Gladys (Yeagley) Frederick. As a child, her family moved to Michigan, and Mary lived most of her life in Kalamazoo. On July 26, 1943 she married Garrett R. Dykehouse of Kalamazoo, in San Antonio, Texas. Garr preceded her in death in 2011, they were married for 67 years. She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Mary is survived by her children, Gail Drayton, Jill, Rod and Bruce (Cheryl) Dykehouse; grandchildren, Matt (Kelly) Richmond, Jennifer (Andy) Merriman; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Marley, Sidney Richmond and Stella Merriman; one brother, Dean; two sisters, Mardelle Pozeznik and JoAnne Guarisco; and many nieces and nephews. Mary retired from the State of Michigan. She enjoyed many activities which included bowling, golf, cards, bingo and trips to the casino. She was an accomplished knitter and seamstress. She traveled during the summer with her family and enjoyed many summers camping on the shores of Lake Michigan. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bickford of Portage and Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. Services were held at 11:00am Friday, July 30 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Private interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary's name may be made to Bickford of Portage Senior Living and Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
