Dunworth, Mary Mary Dunworth, 90 of Portage, passed away July 8th at Rose Arbor Hospice. A private immediate family funeral was held at Coldwater United Methodist Church. She moved to Detroit, Michigan after graduating from high school in Oak Hill, West Virginia to be with her parents who had recently moved to Detroit for work. She graduated from Detroit Business University and worked at General Fire Extinguisher, Western Auto Machine Company and Chrysler Corporation all in the Detroit area. On July 24, 1948 she married Laurence "Larry" G. Dunworth. He preceded her in death on November 20, 1994. During their marriage they lived in East Detroit, Rochester and in 1967 moved to Coldwater. In 2012 Mary moved to Portage with her daughter and son-in-law to live with them. She loved living on the lake and taking pontoon rides. Mary loved life and good times. She had such a wonderful sense of humor and loved being around people of all ages. She was a faithful friend, made others smile easily and connected with most everyone she met. Family and friends were very important to her. Mary loved making silk ribbon embroidery shirts, stenciling walls, rugs and shirts; sewing; golfing (had a hole in one); baking; she was a wonderful cook; loved to entertain, playing cards and board games, traveling, but most of all she loved being around her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a little adventurous. She rode in a hot air balloon, stood on her head when she turned 50 and at the age of 80 she went on a jet ski ride with her son. She was an outstanding wife and incredible mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She wrote in her personal journal: "My children and grandchildren have brought me much joy. What else would a mother want? They are so good to me. I count my blessings not one by one but by the millions." She was a member of the Coldwater United Methodist Church for forty-five years and belonged to the Women's Church Circle there before moving to Portage where she became a member of Portage Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. She wintered in Lake Suzy, Florida for the last 29 years and attended the First United Methodist Church in Punta Gorda where she belonged to the Julie MaCartney Circle. Mary was also a member of a small bible group called "Gratitude." She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for a total of 49 years in Coldwater and Portage.
